From IT to Nutrition Coach?

Science is not a degree, educational program or protocol, it is a methodology!

Yes!  That is me about eight years ago.  I am not a doctor or licensed dietitian/nutritionist.  If I were, I could not share the information I need to without losing a license and a career.  I have over 35 years’ experience in IT developing, troubleshooting and managing computer systems.  One may wonder how I ended up as a nutrition coach?  That road is long but here is the condensed version.

While most of us have heard of the freshman fifteen pounds for college students.  If that were extended to include a 35-year sedentary career, that would translate to the obese 85 pound post high school weight gain.  As health issues started to manifest in my late 30’s, I began to repent and listen to my doctor.  That is, a healthier diet, more exercise, etc., but I never really was able to achieve becoming a healthy individual.  There was even a “whole food” diet phase, i.e. almost nothing from the middle isles of the supermarket.

Unphased, I tapped into my IT experience and began doing research on this misbehaving system, i.e., my body.  There are many unknown factors and conditions that cause computer system issues.  Consider the hardware your body, firmware/BIOS is the basic brain stem functions (breathing, hearty rhythm, blood pressure, balance, etc.), the operating system basic body functions (muscle movement, digestion, information storage/retrieval, etc.) and applications & inputs are the things we do that influence the system.  Our behavior and what we put into the system can have a dramatic effect on the healthy function of that system!

Hence, my journey began that lead me to becoming a nutrition coach.  I poured through the internet, read books, etc. trying to determine what it takes to become healthy.  With Type 2 diabetes rampant in my family and myself on the cusp of the disease, I was determined to unlock the knowledge of how to live a healthier life.  I was resolute to avoid the complications of Type 2 diabetes, more medications and to rid myself of the ones I was consuming.  It has been six years of research to date and the research continues to achieve my goal to make America healthy again.
